meet the tutor……….

My name is Michelle and I am the online tutor for Colora Art and I am a self employed Art and Wellbeing Tutor.

Story behind the business….

As someone who has always gone above and beyond to support children it became noticeable in mainstream schools, that classes were overcrowded, a lot of time was focused on core subjects and very little on creative subjects like Art or music, which for some children it is their biggest strength. Many children are practical or visual learners who are often expected to fit into the same box, to learn exactly the same way, which is a way that doesn’t benefit them. Children become overwhelmed which then leads on to low self-esteem to the point where they are unable to function. Children’s mental health is at crisis point with very little support available.

This was the driving force behind me setting up Colora Art as it became increasingly frustrating and disheartening to see children getting lost in the system whilst watching a child sit and struggle and feeling helpless, as it is against everything I believe in. I want to be that person who nurtures the child, tunes into their interests and adapts to the way they learn to become the best version of themselves.

As a parent of a child who suffers with SEN and severe anxiety who was in mainstream school, I saw first-hand the heartbreak and toll it took on her mental health and the whole family which is why we made the decision to home educate our children. My experience with working closely with children and understanding what they need to thrive allows me to provide a safe and calm environment online in the comfort of their own home. There are no high expectations or pressure to be a certain way; they can just be themselves whilst expressing themselves through Art and having fun!

I look forward to meeting you and going on this creative journey together!

My mission

To provide non - pressured therapeutic online Art and Wellbeing sessions as 1.1 or in small low cost groups for Home Educated, flexi schooled and schooled children, including those who aren’t currently in school.

Children will have the chance to enhance their creativity and imagination by learning new art skills while using different materials and discovering Artists along the way. Wellbeing lessons will provide insight into emotions and how to understand and manage them through being creative.
